Don't Try This At Home

Just one little milestone at Leoque website. We have posted 499 juicylicious posts encompassing our furniture products, displays & accents, some fun photo shots of products, a bit of industry tips and news, interesting site links… and more.

And so, we got 500 posts now!

With just a little over half a year, we get to be at half-kilo posts. On average, we are producing over 2 and half posts per day. I’m just lazy to dig, but I know, there are over 2000 copyrighted photos at site, all photographed and processed by us. Over 400 pieces of distinct & different items-for-sale scattered all throughout the four hundred ninety nine posts.

But wait, there’s more…

The back-end part of doing this online furniture shop, that’s also a handful. Making sure that the plug-ins are working, the contact form, doing back-ups, the pages are showing up correctly, ads are all good and more.

I’ll tell you, making a shop-blog for furniture is not for the faint-hearted. Kids, don’t try this at home.

Marketers always have the statement… “we are the fastest growing network…,” “we are the fastest growing food chain…,” etc… well, we are positive, the House of Leoque furniture website, is one of the fastest growing weblogs-con-shop in the Philippines. And this site will only get bigger, bolder and better.

Here’s to another 500 posts!

Again, the PBA Website

In 2 years (or 3), I’ve blogged 2-3 posts hitting the lackluster PBA website. 2010 is fast approaching and the PBA website is still stuck in mediocrity. When I heard that the PBA is planning on building they own turf, I remember posting, before they start thinking of building a coliseum, they better fix their website first, pronto.

And so, I have an open letter to Commissioner Barrios…

Dear Sir, I am Benhur, a wanna be sports blogger. Of course this is not my real name. But close to that. My real name is Benjamin and if ever we’ll ink the contract I’ll give my complete surname. The contract you ask? Well, read on please sir.

I know fixing your website AKA your cyber space presence is not high on your TO-DO list. I understand that. Coz now, finding real space for your game 5 is even a larger problem. You are right, you don’t even have a place to play on. But please sir, consider my offer regarding the PBA websucks, err, website.

I’m thinking, hell, oh sorry sir, pardon me, heck, if we are paid next to nothing talking about the PBA and some guys can make kickass websites, blogs and forums via hardwork, passion for the PBA, for free, and using open source applications, why can’t a billion peso association like yours put up a decent website.

You know… decent…

  • One with real-time stats and updated photo galleries
  • One that has up-to-the-minute sched, game recaps & results.
  • One where 404 (not found) pages don’t show up.
  • One without Google ADS! Crissakes, one click and your visitors are headed elsewhere. One click = 1 peso? The PBA needs one peso? (Leave that Google ADs to indie sites like, ahm, HOOPH)
  • One that can supplement PBA fantasy addicts.
  • One that has separate team pages.
  • One with some articles on it not written by robotic press people.
  • One that has interactivity, celebrity chats, comments sections and/or forum.
  • One with video archives, highlight reels and old vintage games.
  • One that complements Solar Sports coverage.
  • One that has integrated online store that sells PBA merchandise.
  • One site that effin twitters!

And not one where Asi Taulava scored 2223 points.

The PBA website is out of touch and we need to act now.

Here’s my offer Sir Barrios:

The deal.., Hire me today. Pay me P75,000 a month. That’s only P7500 per team per month. I’ll quit my day job (yes I have sort of a day job) and we (and by we, means me & my web developer friends) will fix your site. Just give me access to stats, photos, videos & archives and we will rock it. And promise, no GOOGLE ADS.

Please call on or before 3 pm today. If you don’t call me it means you are not interested and you really don’t want to connect to your very active online fans.

Project: Philippine Hotel Guide

I have this pending project that is pending no more... a directory of hotels in the Philippines.

I placed it inside bLINK (AKA, blog LINK), put it on a subdomain, and again, I used the cool Wordpress as the publishing platform.

http://hotel.blink.ph - Philippine Hotel Guide.

I logged 6 hours on this project (excluding the encoding of the hotels' details, an assistant typed it for me). Four hours yesterday (12:30 to 4:30), then another hour last night, and another 1 hour today (March 6th).

A quickie project where we list Philippine hotels indexed per location and with direct telephone numbers for inquiry, booking & reservation. At every page of this site, see sidebar, listed are Philippine hotels categorized per province or city/town.

(What I get from this? Besides adding up another site in bag, and besides loading the site with some ads, this site is also a test site for my own self study, Do-It-Yourself SEO learning.)

In the coming days, we will still manually add up some entries to make the directory bigger.

We would like to grow this directory even more, thus additions on this Philippine Hotel Guide are very much welcome. Please submit new entries using this form. And, we would like this Philippine Hotel Guide/Directory to be as accurate as possible. Any corrections, updates, additional details you would like us to add and change, please send us a note using this form.

On your next country tripping, please check our site for some Philippine hotels.

Bon Voyage!

Leoque Collection, Philippine Made Furnitures

Today, Feb 14 2009 (It’s Valentines Day! What a day to launch!), marks the day we finally settled into our new home. Our online home that is.

Cause I'm part of this project, the site name somewhat bears my name or more closely, our fathers' name... l e o q u e

Leoque Collection home is here. And more info about this project here.

What we settled on is a clean, neat and white design so as not to take the attention away from what is supposed to be on showcase… The Leoque collection of furniture, accents & accessories and other stuff that should feel, err, fill your home.

Just a little guide and background on our website: (This will also serve as our documentation/history of our online existence.)

  1. A gallery of 3 random photos of our product line is put upfront and up top. Gallery includes, a “random product,” the “best sellers” and lastly, the “accents & accessories. This gallery is sort of three (3) window of what we have.
  2. We inserted just a couple of ads. Some of which are good resources of information about interior design, furniture, design, etc. (and by the way, those are paid ads)
  3. Our main navigation consists of the self explanatory pages such as “home,” “products,” “about,” and “contact.” We’ve put up the “customize” page for those who have their own design and want to request for pricing.
  4. Our site not only acts us our showroom but also as a “share-room.” We will be posting articles, tips, news links, and whatnot about home, styles, condo living, interior design, furniture industry. Check out the BLOG category time to time.
  5. Our sidebars (right, and far right) contain essential info & links about Leoque Collection.
  6. Because some of the pages could possibly stretch a thousand miles, a handy main navigation link is provided at the footer to easily get back to frontpage, products page, etc.
  7. Just some notes below each page saying that… (a) the business and the site is co-owned by PYKOS Incorporated; (b) it is hosted by WebMen - our cute little web hosting gig; (c) this site is powered by the FREE and wonderful publishing app Wordpress and (d) our theme design is from Alibi Productions.

Over the next few days, we will be filling up the site with over hundred different items we have on stock .

You’ve heard this before but we’ll say anyway… Welcome To Our Home!

And by the way, Happy Valentines!

PBA Online Ending, Wanna Bet?

This entry is planned to be a two-part post about "PBA Ending." This is the fist part of two. If I am pumped enough, I’ll finish and post the second part, titled “I was an Ending Kobrador in Highschool.”

Part 1 - “My Planned PBA Betting Game That Went Kapus & Kaput”

As the PBA opened up a new betting game (a year or so ago) and virtually shutting down the possibility of a PBA endorsed “Ending” game, I’ll share an online-mafia idea few can think of. Few, because the idea is absurd.

For years, the PBA stayed away from gambling and betting for obvious reasons. And so hearing (actually, reading) that the PBA and PAGCOR just tangled up for betting game a year ago is a surprise

Yesteryear, I was thinking along the line too of making an online game. The entrepreneur in me gave me the idea of making a social PBA ending, online based, a PBA ending game that can be played wherever you may be in the Philippines.

A simple internet connection is needed, available at your nearest internet rentals or in bed using your laptop. (The idea came after I had a blog entry about this sports gambling site.)

But the idea is not possible coz the PBA is aloofly interested in gambling on well, gambling. Because the PBA won’t ever put a stamp on an “ending” game, the only way one could make an online ending game was operate in stealth mode. A project waiting to be grounded in case it took flight. With the chance of being shut down after becoming a hit is not a good business plan. Imagine spending tens of thousand to the develelopment, the next day, you get a letter from the PBA and GAB legal teams telling you to shutdowm. So there goes your 100 grand.

But still, I was thiought of this seriously, even had a chat with a web developer going to the nitty-gritty of the programming. ONLY, I am a netentrepreneur and not Al Capone, a mafia boss, so the IDEA remains to be that, an IDEA.

Continuing with the scheme… How would an online ending game be executed? Online interface only needs simple programming and creativity. Programming side is easy and can be done once the object of the play is drawn. A site only needs to have sheets or tabs where players, I mean bettors will place their bets.

To simplify and for sampling, the site only needs to have 5 tabs for each game. Each tab progresses in jackpot value. Like, Tab 1 – a bet of P10 will net you P800. Tab 2 – A bet of 20, the pot is P1600. Finally, Tab 5 – a bet of P200 will give you a chance of winning P16,000.00. If ever each tabs are filled up and games is still a day (hours even) away, additional tabs will be available. (I wasted 15 minutes of my life just to get the numbers right. God, I will never get that 15 minutes back. And, about 2 hours making this post.)

Bettors only need to load their accounts with bet-loads to be consumed and used at site. They could easily get their winnings or even their remaining loads via online banking to those who have net banking accounts. Via mobile banking using Smart and Globes mechanisms. Or via the old-fashioned, wired payments. Direct encashment from participating enterprises is also possible. Just to be in with the times, texting can be easily integrated with the betting scheme. Power to the Peso!

But wait, there’s more… A user can actually see his game-betting history, his placed bet, his lucky ending combinations, cash-outs, etc. by visiting his user account, aptly named, BetLogs (don’t you love that, the term alone, makes my plan a winner). Nice?

Of course, being confidential and that it contain private details, your friend will not be able to access your BetLog. Much love is needed to access the BetLog. Betlog s sacred.

Some sample predicaments: A. You won P16,000 and you’re checking your BetLog in bed in an air-conditioned room, that’s a Win-Win situation. Right? B. You’ve been placing bet for weeks, not winning even the lowest pot and checking your BetLog at a rented PC, that a loss-loss station. Loss-loss! Got it?

The PBA ending game is a simple one. It would have been easier (and a smashing hit) had the PBA just went the easy way of doing a PBA betting game. Even a fool can understand how “ending” works. Choose a number combo, watch the game (hell, you could even skip this wathing part) or read the newspaper, surf the net and look for the final score. 97 - 85 scores nets a 7-5 “ending”; 80 - 70 final score gives you 0-0, and so on.

In fact, with the Ending Game’s non-complexity, it forced the PBA and PAGCOR to devise their game (hulahoops) to counter the possibility of players, coaches, teams and (most definitely) referees to control the results. PBA’s Hula-Hoops (their ending version) died out easily. Will we ever see them have another crack at it? If ever they do, they should sign me up, My Ending Is A Winner. =)

Scred New Look

After 6 hours of tweaking & testing, finally, the reload of S^CRED catalog/website is done. We’ve been stuck with the black version for over a year now and we felt the refreshment of our site is needed. And so, the new version now.

The official S^cred site is powered by Wordpress.com, the open source blogging application and hosted still by WMN. Maintained by PYKOSinc.

We changed the theme to one that would resemble this multiply site version. More importantly, we totally fixed the chaotic products page, to one that is more soothing to the eyes. Please see here.

I Designed 215 Design

I did a quick company website. I started yesterday and hit the final nails today. This would have been faster (5 hours perhaps) if walang ibang ginagawa. Of course, some incoming minor edits are expected after the owner sees the uploaded company profile website.

Owner is actually my cousin who designed our condo unit for free. Twas actually an ex-deal. Me, made his site = He, designed our home.

I used Wordpress as the CMS. Its easy to customize than joomla/mambo/etc. And, the site is hosted by our reseller web hosting venture, WMN. The only bucks I'll get is the hosting fee. Roughly P3000 per year.

The site is here.... www.215-design.com. Please check it out. And if you ever need an architectural design service, ring them up. And, if you need a web developer, our group can do the job and can host your site. Around P5000 to P10,000 for simple company profile website.

HooPh Redesigned

Oh and by the way, Hoops.Blink.Ph is now redesigned. My friends from WMN helped in upgrading the site. I now help in fixing the site and restoration of some of the functionalities. Also now has expanded "other sports" section. Now showing are MMA, Boxing & Pool. It has an obvious ESPN look. Take a look now. Here, Hooph. It's cleanly designed now, I hope I can write more in there.

Finally, No More Monkey Business, BIZiKAT is Live

Hey hey hey, after almost a month of now-I-fix and now-I-dont project, BIZIKAT is now open for business.

Cumulative hours I spent is I guess is (computing... computing... computing... computing...) 30 to 40 hours for this project. Roughly, one working weekday. What's good about making sites is that, after it's done, little maintenance (more on updates) is required and if you got high paying content (for google ads), you're talking about spare change everyday. How about creating 50 sites then? Add up the ads revenue then this sites project could amount to something. Hmmmm?!

It's a hobby of mine to build sites out of open source apps, test run the site for a while, and if everything is ok, donate some bucks to the developer and walah, be proud and launch the site and act like I am the genius who made the site from ground up.

And so the results are site like Blozoom! and BIZiKAT.

What's BIZiKAT?

Specifically created for Filipinos and Philippine based companies, businesses, corporations, websites, enterprises, etc. Bizikat.com generally offers the following: A quick but a totally efficient, complete contact, easy to use, cleanly designed and a cool Philippine online directory. WHAT'S BIZIKAT???

Be-productive, Bizikat

http://www.bizikat.com/index/images/logo-google.png

I paid some dollars to have this domain (BIZIKAT.COM) registered then I totally dropped this in the pecking order of projects to be done.

Since the NBA 08 done, the PBA too done, Olympics done, TV time is now directed to project testing time. So, I finally had the time to get back at this domain and see what I can make out of this.

The plan...
  • Philippine Web Directory.
  • This pinoy online directory is already pre-loaded with "admin added" websites and companies.
  • Super easy listing. Only 4 minutes and you're done.
  • With heavy preference to internet presence, blogs, internet forums, online stores, company websites, etc.
  • Only Philippine based or with Filipino connection can list their sites.
  • It's totally FREE listing.
  • For accuracy, this internet directory 100% human edited and supervised. (AHEM, that's me.)
  • Each listing has "hits" counter and added image gallery option.
  • For registered user, the power to edit, delete your entries in the future.
http://dont.blink.ph/wp-content/gallery/blozoom/bizikat-logo-version1.png

Right now, I am in the process of filling up the categories (an unenviable task really) coz the categories are broad and the sub categories never end.

Bizikat.com is a Philippine web directory. Specifically created for Filipinos and Philippine based companies, businesses, corporations, websites, enterprises, etc. Bizikat.com generally offers the following: A quick but a totally efficient, complete contact, easy to use, cleanly designed and a cool Philippine online directory.

The end-result of which is helping you to be more popular or sikat. Thus, be sikat. Looking at it in a diffrent way, Bizikat simply means, listing your Business (BIZ) in the Internet (i) to right category (KAT) with the purpose of letting other easily find your website/company.

This should be ready soon so I'll wake up before September ends.

Nowhere Sites

I mentioned the streamlining I made on my bookmarked sites. Some are 3 to 4 years old and the favorrites lists really needed the clean up. Herewith are sample websites long been gone... or at best, no longer updated.
  • balitabalita.com
  • homepagekoto.com
  • ebuyncell.com
  • mytindahan.com
  • thetradingpost.ph
  • kuweba.com
  • newsbump.net
  • astigg.com
  • myphilippines.com
  • hellomanila.com
  • gophilippines.com
  • buyncell.biz
  • yotophoto.com
  • thesimplegallery.com
  • estore-exchange.com
  • pinoybookstoreonline.com
  • openpinoy.net
  • itechmobile.net
  • youtubex.com
  • infamousx.com
  • philippinesfreeads.com
Which reminds me, in doing websites, it can't be just be on pure impulse.

Registering a domain name (and cheap btw) and it's easy to start a project but maintaining such and having the commitment to stick to the project and push through it in thin times is the tougher part.

Have to see the long-term. See how you'll generate income (btw, don't create a site thinking Google Adsense money alone all the time, you won't last), what really is the target audience, how your site will evolve etc. etc. Otherwise, in one year, your site, the domain name, the development made go "bye bye na" on you.

(check some of the domains above, some are for sale)

HTML Site Wire to Wire

Spent yesterday's PM and today's PM drafting/making a layout for a quite frankly, sister's company. Literally.

It took me a day to do this. Yep, I am slow. The background images take time to do. All images used here are made from scratch. But, the basic lay-outing and placement is easy. Just like inserting tables on a word document.

Because owner thinks (I think so too) that pure HTML websites are getting more Google love than database driven (os commerce, joomla, mambo, drupal, etc.) websites. More so, if you didn't tweak the search engine friendliness of the URL of the database site. Say goodbye to GOOG, err, GOOD SERP.

The site/company does Semicon Industry related products and services and it should be live in some days. I think. I hope.

Blozooming Even More

One day, I woke up dreaming of building a classifieds ads website. One big problem, I am not a real programmer. But hey, am driven. Back in January, after some weeks, I was able to build one... BLOZOOM!

Then other (offline and online) projects came in so Blozoom! dev went to a halt. This week I was able to go back and look inside Blozoom.com and see what can be added. Tonight, some weak tweaks were added...
  1. We removed the footer ads at the bottom of the page. It's mildly useless anyways.
  2. We improved the delivery of GOOGLE ADS via other Joomla Module.
  3. We inserted one ad inside the ad descripton page. Just to pay bills, you know.
  4. Blozoom now has RANDOM MESSAGE atop the page. Yes, on top. Look up.
  5. Blozoom now has SHOUTBOX. Really did not want this, but hell, all other classifieds sites have this so we went ahead and put one.
  6. Notice the footer - credits. Funny thing is, this site is developed by WMN but take a look at WMN site, its stuck in year of 2000. LOL!
  7. We've installed a "Your Badge" add on where user can copy the html to place the badge on his personal/company website or any other sites that allow html insertions like Blogspot, Myspace, Friendster, etc. (see the ugly sample at the sidebar... i'll edit that! i'm sleepy!)
  8. All content items (like Tips, Tutorials, Blog Entry, FAQs) inside Blozoom! are loaded with Ads!
  9. We've laid out all the categories at the bottom page for your easy navigation and hopefully some search engine luv.
  10. Powerful Google Search at the bottom of the page as well. Make me a rich man, use that.

And more to come.

It's Coming Together!

Blozoom.com ShoutBox

I was asked to install one module at Blozoom.com. A module that nobody will ever use, but the hell with that. Lemme install it anyways. Dameeet, it took half a day to choose the better version of the module, to customize it , and make it actually work. Too little time with too many projects.

Rather than calling it SHOUTBOX, I dubbed it BOOM BOX. Just inserted (loz) for the Blozoom branding. Check out the Blozooom Shoutbox and make some noise.

Eh what's that site is all about? It's a Philippines Buy & Sell. Go there, sell anything 'cept ur soul.
